Canadian family law attorney Brian Ludmer was a featured guest on Families Divided TV, a YouTube channel that concentrates on parenting issues specific to families who don’t co-habitate. This talk will cover an important topic: Handling School Issues Between Parents Who Live Apart.

When parents don’t live together, children often face extra challenges at school. From communication gaps to disagreements about homework, extracurriculars, or other school-related choices, these issues can create stress for the whole family, not least of which, children. In this session, Brian will draw on his own professional and personal experiences, sharing his insights on how parents can navigate these challenges while still keeping the best interests of any kids involved as the central focus. Author and educator Patti Howell will also join the discussion, offering practical tips for supporting the education of children navigating life with parents who live apart.

Brian Ludmer is widely recognized for his work in high-conflict divorce, denial of access, and parental alienation, often serving as special counsel with Canadian, American, and internationally-based attorneys on such cases. He is also the co-author of The High Conflict Custody Battle, a guidebook for parents and professionals dealing with complex and stressful family situations that include children. The book is available for purchase on Amazon and through the Indigo chain of bookstores.

In addition to operating his Toronto-based family law practice, Ludmer Law, Brian also has over 32 years of experience in business and securities law, including work on cross-border mergers, IPOs, and securities transactions—a background that adds valuable perspective to high net worth family law cases.

Brian Ludmer is a frequent speaker in both legal and mental health forums, committed to sharing what he has learned with professionals and parents across North America. He has presented at major conferences, including ISNAF (2011, 2013), PAAO, the Children’s Rights Council, the Canadian Equal Parenting Coalition, and Family Access, where he gave talks on two papers at its 2019 conference in Kentucky. His international speaking engagements have included the PASG Conference in Washington (2017), the inaugural EAPAP conference in London, UK (2018), and PASG Philadelphia (2019). He has also delivered presentations across Canada and the United States on high-conflict divorce and grandparents’ rights, and has spoken to the Ontario hospital network on parental alienation diagnosis and therapy.

Beyond his casework, Brian is a founding member of Lawyers for Shared Parenting. He helped draft Canada’s Bill C-560, a 2014 proposal to amend Canada’s Divorce Act to introduce a presumption of equal shared parenting. Later, he was invited to testify before the Canadian House of Commons (2018) and Senate (2019) on Bill C-78, which reformed Canada’s divorce legislation in 2020. Brian Ludmer also serves as the legal editor of the Parental Alienation Study Group’s bi-monthly newsletter, and in the past, has been counsel or co-counsel on several landmark Canadian court cases, many of which have made significant legal advancements in the denial of access and parental alienation.
